La Plaza de la Romanilla, también es conocida como la de las Palmeras. En la época musulmana era un lugar de venta de mercancías. Después se construyó el convento de las capuchinas en 1636. y tras su desaparición, en la primera mitad del siglo XIX, el solar se adoquinó y urbanizó como plaza y mercado público de verduras en 1842. Este espacio fue bautizado con el nombre de plaza de la Libertad. Su nombre proviene de último mercado que se ubicó en ese lugar, y en el que con una romana, se controlaba el peso de los productos adquiridos
