Es de estilo barroco y, según Molina Fajardo, es una Fuente Mosaica que perteneció (probablemente) al convento de Belén de los frailes mercedarios descalzos.
La denominación de BATALLAS, viene desde siglos atrás. Este espacio junto con el Campillo, eran zonas de extramuros de Granada ya en la Edad Media, y el lugar donde se reunía el ejercito de la ciudad para pasar revista. A las unidades militares se les llamaba batallas y de ahí su nombre. Está situada en pleno centro de la ciudad.
